Spring 2021 and 2022
When the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic reached southwest Georgia in the spring of 2020, the word "unprecedented" seemed to be part of every conversation. Coronavirus was the not the first pandemic to affect the Americus, the United States, or the world. While historical literature on the global influenza pandemic has burgeoned over the last several decades, its local effects are rarely discussed as part of the city's history.
